R Mcnally or Garmin

I have the rand mcnally rvnd 7710, and I love it. Never had a garmin.

I Own a number of Garmin GPS units including the 760 and would never purchase thir products again. Everyone of the units I have freeze or lock up and updating is a pain in the you know what. I have horrible stories but my advise is to buy anything but Garbage I mean Garmin....

I've got Garmins and TomTom - love the Garmins, have little good things to say about TomTom. Have never used Rand McNally. As a fellow RVer/pilot says, Garmin is used in aircraft, others aren't, so they must be good. Garmin has always gotten me there, TomTom has lead me on wild goose chases.

You can download Point of Interest (POIs) into Garmins (and other GPS systems). A good source for RVers is the Discovery Owners web page:

You can also make your own POI files. There are free tools, Goggle Earth, or just a plain old text editor if you have the Lats and Longs.

Just came back from a short trip to a SC state park using a Garmin. For the most part all went well. Did some site seeing and late in the day wanted to get back to the campsite. Garmin on several occasions tried to send me down roads that were no longer there and from the looks of things had not been there for several years. To be fair, the Tom Tom I had prior did the same thing from time to time, and both are far better than the Magellan from Camping World I got for Christmas a couple of years ago.

The net of all this is that they will all send you ways you can't believe. You should always carry some form of backup planning. Map, Google, etc .

Looks like the Discovery Owners files are pretty old. Another suggested site is the POI Factory. Good stuff there, and frequently updated.

garmin760 does have a backup camera input, std plug and a HUGE list of campgrounds and RV services, dealers etc. Haven't checked mine specifically but it does seem to show good sam sites. It has a bigger list of campgrounds than any book I've seen, since it includes a huge number if not all FS, BLM, campgrounds and an extensive list of RV parks, State parks, fairgrounds etc. For me that extensive list is worth the admission price for the RV760. and when you click on a campground it often will give comprehensive additional info.
for campsites you can choose to selectively search based on a variety of critera you can check off, for example, electric, water, etc.

So far I'm impressed and happy with the 760. Just used it for a 2500 mile trip from oregon through idaho and montana and only had a few quibbles, that really aren't Garmins fault. For example one tunnel had a 10'6" side clearance and 12' ceiling clearance and garmin tried to reroute me due to clearance. BTW highway department website listed the clearance as 10'6", so can't really blame Garmin. I knew the road and knew there wasn't an issue.

Like anything, common sense must go along with using a GPS.

With most everyone having smart phones and great apps like Co-Pilot, why buy a stand alone GPS?

I tried and hated Co-Pilot so I have a Garmin and love it.
YMMV.

For those who use Passport America,They have an app of their parks for the Garmin RV760.
I have the new RV670LMT and I am very happy with it. It does not have GS parks
noted as GS but many of the 14,000 parks listed are GS.
I had an old Garmin nuvi350 that was getting senile, what an improvement the 760 is! From what I have read on other posts here,I'm glad that I decided to go with the Garmin 760

Consumers Report rates dozens of GPS units. Invariably Garmin comes out on top.
You can download thousands of POI's to your Garmin unit including Good Sam, WalMart, Costco, rest areas, on & on.
