I'm using MS essentials for anti virus and malwarebytes right from day one. The Acer is 3 years old and this started about 8 months ago and been sitting for the 8 months as I bought a new HP laptop and just wanted to see if I could find what's wrong with the Acer.
I will try the things that you suggested. Thanks
Adware, malware and virus would be the most likely culprits that will cause a good working PC to suddenly no longer work correctly or as fast as it used to.
You need to boot to "safe mode" in order to really run anti virus/malware/adware scan and clean up.
Some anti virus programs can also slug a PC, there may be an optional scan mode which continually scans the drive that may be using up resources or memory..
Clip coupons? If so many of those couponing sites are full of Adware, they tend to dump lots o junk on your PC turning it into a slug.
To full of a hard drive can cause a PC to slow down, take a look at how much room you have left.. If you have 20% or less unused space on your drive you need to move files you want to keep to an external drive.. Any other document files you don't need or want to keep you can delete them (remember to empty the recycle bin when done otherwise the files will still be on the drive taking space).
While I would agree that 2gig of Ram is a bit light for Win7, it really isn't the problem since you noticed it getting very slow only a few months ago. Adding memory to a Netbook most likely will not fix the slow and a good chance that Netbook is maxed out in RAM for the system board BIOS and most likely is not upgradeable.
