Years ago I learned that I need to keep my RV receiver plugged in and hooked to the house antenna. I let it go all winter like that and it never needs to be re-authorized.
Every month, when you pay your bill, Directv sends a signal to each of your receivers re-authorizing them for another month. The receiver does not need to be turned on to receive this signal, merely plugged in and hooked to the antenna is enough. If the receiver is unplugged, or not hooked to the antenna, long enough it will miss the re-authorizing signal and de-authorize. It thinks you didn't pay your bill.
A simple click on a button of their website, or phone call to them gets another re-authorization signal sent to that receiver.
