You failed to mention the ailment... I have a Dell in front of me as I type and it too is getting slower and slower.
I think the cause is a combination of shrinking hard drive free space (I cleaned up a bunch by burning to CD and deleting and it helped) not enough memory and layer after layer after layer of Microsoft band aid fixes every patch Tuesday.
I may be able to fix two of those.
