Roku, Verison and data

We have been fulltiming for 4 years now and have a satellite dish and dish on the go. We can't get our local football games when we travel and miss them. We don't want to switch to Direct Tv and pay through the nose for a bunch of channels we don't need just to get the NFL ticket. Our sons suggested we go with unlimited data with our current phone provider - Verizon and Roku with Sling? Anyone else do this? I'm worried that even with unlimited data the speed will slow down once we reach a certain level and we won't be able to stream?

Verizon's unlimited data plan is limited to 22GB of 4G service and then it is subject to network optimization (slow down) if the tower you are connecting to is busy (a frequent occurrence but not a guaranteed slow down).
Watching 1 days worth of football in HD is likely going to eat up much of that 22GB. If you are an AT&T customer and a DirecTV customer you can stream all the DirecTV programming you like without biting into your there Unlimited (22GB limit) plan.

You are correct regarding Verizon and the right to throttle-down after exceeding 22GB; however, we are on that plan and have exceeded that limit on quite a few occasions without having that happening to us. We are using PlayStation Vue for our cable option.
  • BTW there is "other" ways to get to watch what you want over the internet....
  • Can you get Fox Sports Go as a stand alone?

We have DTV at home and sign into Fox Sports Go with our DTV account and just watched the Brewers play last week when we were in AZ.

Im just not sure if a person could get it as a stand alone subscription though...

edit; looks like you cannot get it as a stand alone.

  • Be aware that even with Sling and many other streaming services your local channels can be blacked out when away from your home network.
  • I have not used Roku and sling, but on your Data usage concern, you can with most services set you resolution to standard definition, and your data usage will be reduced by half or more. To a videophyle it may be an issue, but at the reduced quality it will still be comparable to something like a vcr tape or a standard dvd.
