I would like to play movies on my television from my phone. However, there exists (as far as I've found so far) no way to convert an hdmi or component cable to my phone or tablet (Samsung galaxy s7 or Tab4 7.0). The available converters stop working at s6. I did get a Samsung converter (for which I thought I hit paydirt), but it has a micro USB attachment that ONLY fits a Samsung TabS. So, everything I've read said attach it wirelessly. However, I wasn't planning to add a wireless router, that connected to the Internet) to the RV. My question is, has anyone used a router to setup a private wireless network, that doesn't connect to the Internet, on their RV? I don't need Internet access for the wireless network (I can use phones capabilities to do that), but I would need the wireless to connect the devices on the RV that ALREADY have the media on them. Also, if I did have Internet access (which I know could be "spotty"), I could stream "wirelessly" from my phones or tablets. Anyone done that? What router would you recommend?

You need a Roku. New software update allows you to share or cast the picture from your phone to the TV. My S5 works great and I'm sure your S7 will also. I haven't tried using a stand alone router but I don't know why it wouldn't work. The Roku and your phone need to be connected to the same router. I have an older Roku 3 with the new software update. Let us know how it works.

Get a Chromecast, plugs into HDMI port on TV and you can cast from any smart phone, tablet or laptop as long as as they are both on the same wifi network. Works with windows, android and apple devices. It is easily portable, we bring ours back and forth between our summer and winter homes. We could also use it in the RV, if we wanted to. Not sure about the cost in the US but in Canada they are about $45 for the HD model and $90 for UHD model.

I found the same problem . The problem I think is that if the phone is on a wifi network it wants to use the network as its data source not the cell network . Of course if that network isn't connected to the internet ... the phone also says not connected.Of course movies that are already downloaded to the phone work fine this way .

X 2 on th Chromecast the easiest cheapest way to go.

Even on my S4 the micro USB port is also the mhl port
Aka mobile media display port
I can use an adapter cable with micro USB on one end and hdmi female on the other
So any hdmi cable then connects the phone to a tv

USB 2.0 handles 60MBps
USB 3.0 handles 640MBps
Bluray is 40MBps

There are no issues in USB handling the throughput of high def video.

The slow through put of USB will not and cannot match the high definition capability of HDMI.

HDMI can handle a 1080 resolution easily. With the new Blu-ray format, your USB will not do any good.

I do not think a Chrome cast will work. Mine works great so long as my router IS connected to the internet, but sans the connection no joy.

I am surprised the HDMI Adapters do not work with the latest hardware, Have you called SAMSUNG? I know they work with mine.. or are at least advertised to work with 'em.. I don't use 'em.

NOTE: USB 2.0 devices WILL work with 3.0 jacks

I don't know if his will help your setup, but my wife has an iPad (which is also a cell phone) which she uses to download videos from Netflix over the internet, and she has an adapter that our daughter gave her that connects to the iPad on one end and to an HDMI cable on the other. She uses that to connect the iPad to the TV and plays the movies that she has downloaded onto the iPad.

It seems very simple to use (not that I have done any of it).

I think the key is the phone plug to HDMI connector.

Also, IF you have AT&T cellphone they will give you a free firestick device if you sign up for 1 month of DIRECTV NOW at $30.00 per month. I think it is 100 channels of streaming TV. They won't charge you for the data on their network for streaming. 3 months gets you an apple TV device. If you don't like it I believe you can cancel after the 30 days. Check it out.

Edit: I was wrong, it's $35.00 per month. Introductory offer, later it will go up but you get to keep the lower price if you don't cancel. Firestick alone would cost this much.

Do you have a movie binge plan, unlimited data ?

I know connecting to the tv seems hard, but it's not
The real problem starts, when you have to start paying for all that giga bytes of data used to stream movies

Like others have said - skip the router. When you enable "Hotspot" on your phone, it becomes (sort'a) like a WiFi router at home.

You tell your tablet to connect to your phone's hotspot.
You tell your laptop to connect to your phone's hotspot.

My DVD player is WiFi enabled, so I tell it to connect to the phone. And so on.

Smart TV's with WiFi built in will connect to the phone too. If you don't have a "Smart TV with WiFi" then you need to get something like a Roku or Chromecast.

These devices will allow your TV to connect to your phone's hotspot.

Bear in mind, you'll need an HDMI TV connection for many of these Roku and Chromecast devices.

And bear in mind that viewing video over your phone's hotspot will burn through your data plan like a 5 day old gas station taco running through your digestive system. :)
