I take the opposite approach. I want the GPS to tell me how to get there.
The RV Type GPS are more set in their ways. They want to ensure there are no obstacles or clearance issues along the route. With that in mind they guide you on a more dedicated route that has been verified to be trouble free for RV travel.
Of course none of this is foolproof. No GPS is 100% accurate however the RV models attempt to keep you on verified RV safe routes at all times.
If the GPS does not consider the route RV verified it will avoid that route if possible
Testing mine in CAR mode or RV mode netted the same results. My point was at $350 I think it should be much better. I can get an $85 GPS to blindly lead to a destination.
The unit is advertised to be able to put in custom routes but in reality without a lot of work it is not possible.
