Everyone from the janitor on up was required to have *Secret* Clearance. If your clearance was still in process (new hires), you were required to have an escort everywhere. Same for visitors.
At all the entries you placed your ID/badge on a viewer - and security could also see you on a monitor for comparison.
One guy thought he would put it to the test, attached a pic of Alfred E. Newman (Mad Magazine) over his ID pic.
No problem, "buzzed" right in.
Of course, he was forever known as a dead-ringer for Alfred, his twin, etc., etc.
Another funny thing was - a visitor couldn't get close to the printers as they might see something they shouldn't.......as it
zoomed thru at XXX lines per minute, LOL!
Carbons from multi copy paper had to be saved for proper destruction.
BTW - No special dress requirements (no suits, etc.) - if you liked Hawaiian shirts and Bermuda shorts, no problem. Mgmt did the same.
I was a newbie. One day in the computer room, a fellow worker pointed out a guy with a small group, and said,
"That's Jules Schwartz" - - me: "Yeah, and his brother is Herbie Schwartz!"
