Generally when they say "Wired for Satellite" it means that RG-6 cable you found goes to the middle (roughly) of the roof. NOT to the connection in the basement.
That connection in the basement (unless there are two, or more, of them) is usually for park cable.. It runs to either your box of many buttons or wall plate.
If this is the case my personal recommendation is to ignore Winegard's suggestion of re-tasking, (unless that is they used RG-6 for that line too) and put in a good quality RG-6 cable to a bulkhead or basement connector.
