Good plan, do this first so that you know everything works. Then try using the rig coax. There are various posts about issues with rig coax and satellite.
FYI You can purchase and configure the HR24 for RF remotes. Ours was mounted vertically inside a cabinet. Or you can place it anywhere. I just installed new coax from the receiver to the nearest outside locker - ie absolutely no reason to go back to the DS rear area.
