Most compression fittings don't have the rubber o-ring on the inside barrel but if one was there I would remove it. Otherwise, a good compression fitting and a bit of di-electric is all I need.
The barrel? Isn't that the end that has the stinger, the end you screw the male fitting into? The fittings I bought where called 'weather-proof' and I'm pretty sure there are o rings inside where the stinger is and in the back, where the cable gets inserted before compression. All my fittings are over in my RV in a storage yard, but I sure thought they had two.
The rear one seals between the back of the fitting and the surface of the cable, doesn't it?
