I got one of these portable dish for my HOME DIRECTV acct. This has a compass on it and also AZ marks etc. Being flat on the bottom it sit on my truck folding hard plastic bed cover just fine. being on my truck always reminded me to store the dish before leaving the area.


This one came with a two port head for DIRECTV.

AS you can see you can wind up a good couple hundred feet of RG6 antenna cable. It also mounts to to almost anything. It also folds up for storage while in route.

I also got one of these TONE meters to help me loocate the satellite...


I would run one RG cable port to the living room TV area and the second RG cable port to the bedroom area. Here I would hookup to a SAT RCVR I brought along with me from home.

The I would hook the VIDEO OUTPUT cables of the SAT RCVR to the VIDEO INPUTS on my VIZIO 22-INCH HDTV.

Now I can watch SAT TV or CABLE/OTA TV by using the TV remotes.

Did this for a few years and then when the NATL BROADCAST TV came out with their digital HDTV signals from the local town I quit bringing along my SAT TV STUFF.

The OTA NATL BROADCAST TV from the local towns is high def TV mode and much better on the eyes than the standard satellite was..

What Roy has posted is NOT a good OPTION for an ANTENNA USED with the DISH service. DirecTV uses only one satellite to provide ALL of the StAnDaRd Def. programming so you could use that KIND of an antenna with DirecTV without much issue (except no HDTV).
For Dish, you NEED a multiple LNB antenna or a dome style auto pointing antenna for reception of all of the Dish programming.
You need to figure out what's important to you. If you want to make it cheap and easy that means you need to have a DTV account and a simple to setup antenna but you will not get any of the HDTV programming. If you must have HD then you either need a Winegard Trav'ler roof mount unit or a tripod based home antenna for DirecTV. However, you could use a dome style automatic with Dish Network or manually point one of their home style multiple LNB antennas.

You can get a new 1000.2 dish with 3 LNBs, tripod, cables, compass, meter, etc. for Dish Network for a little over $100. Check the web.

Well I can pick up the dish network lnb for around $30.00 dollars I just don't know of they would interchange and fit on the direct tv dish I looked at those other portable systems and price was not that bad but if I can get a dish for nothing its even more better I just need to know if those lnb would work on that dish

I can provide some answers that question,
I now have several types of the dish's for DirecTV and Dish TV brands, dump guy is my friend and helps a lot.

I have been looking for and making the smallest dish possible for the RV, and have found that the brands WILL NOT interchange, the backing plates/LnB arms etc are of different hole spacings, lengths and width's etc.

I did find that you can countersink the bolt holes for attaching the backing plate etc to the dish/reflector very easy. Just ask if you want the info.

I mounted the Direct TV backing plate on a small round Dish brand reflector and it looks like the factory did it with the countersunk bolt holes etc.

You have to MAKE sure that the LnB arms are the SAME length,(every brand or size has/is different), the Lnb head sets at the same angle/degree as the OEM equipment did, and the dish/reflector has the same depth/angle as the OEM dish etc.

I started with the older Multi-satellite dish and then mounted the 3 angle screw adjustable head (from the Slimline reflector/dish)to that dish using the DirecTV dish/reflector, seems to work perfectly, and I have all the finest adjustments possible.

I was given a Slimline DirecTV dish and it is very large as compared with the Multi-satellite dish.
I am looking for a smaller round/oval dish/reflector that will work with the DirecTV LnB SD head.

Stop by a local Dish Network retailers store front. He can likely provide you with a used Dish 1000.2 setup for the same $30 and you don't have to try to make things work with other things.

i can't tell u if the dtv lnb would work on the dish dish but id be careful using old dishes as sometimes they just get tossed around and may be dented and wont work with your setup an i don't know what you meen by 'they' have lots of dishes lying around good luck

well a few poeple have them on there houses and they are not being used and I have spoken to some of them and they said that I could have them also I would be putting a dish network lnb on a directtv dish would that work !!!!!!
