Satillite for dumbies

I have a new to me 2006 Holiday Rambler Adimaral with a Tracvission R5 dish on the roof. What is the proper way to hook this up?

There is a prewired panel in the cabinet with the following ports and the on/off swith for the diash. You can hear the dish moving when turned on.

EXT Input - has what appears to be factory coax running to front TV

Roof Input - empty

To Vidio Switch - Empty

Also there are two coax cables coming from roof area in the cabinet that are not label.

I have a picture of the connections just cannot figure out how to post it.

Thanks,

  • my 08 Monaco has a similar panel.
There is a cable TV input and a hookup for an external satelite dish in the rear bay where the shore powerhookup is.

I use the "external sat input" to connect to a fixed dish 1000.2 antenna at our seasonal campground (too many trees, the dome gets nothing), and switch back to the dome input when we go on the road.
  • Update - I borrowed a direct TV receiver from a friend who has satellite tv, I hooked it up one at a time to the two coax cables coming in from what appears to be the dish and did get it to lock on and give me all the channels my friend subscribed to. I went from the receiver to TV with a set of AV cables that where already coming from the front TV. It appears when they installed the dish they skipped the factory prewired panel in the cabinet with the DVD and switch box. Not sure what the other coax is? Both TV's work off the antenna through the switch box also DVD player and cable TV works when hooked up at parks. All through the switch box. I think my next test will be to see if I can hook it to the factory set up and get it going through the switch box so both TV'S will get satellite. But at least I know the dish works and I can order my own service.
  • You can try connecting the receiver to either of those if you are sure they are from the satellite and turn on the antenna to see if it locks. Your biggest concern might be what service you are using (Dish, DirecTV) and what the previous owner used. If they are different you must find a KVH dealer with the correct computer and software to reprogram the antenna.
You will also either have to change your receiver setup if you are DirecTV or accomplish a successful Check Switch if you are Dish.
    Let us know more.
  • There should be two coax cables coming from the dome and one from the antenna.
My Tracvision won't seek unless it is connected to a sat box. I d start by connecting them one at a time to a tv and figure out which is the antenna. You might want to call or email their tech support. Prolly a manual online.
  • Unfortunately, it's not going to be possible for any of us to help you out. Your best bet would be to get a satellite installer out to help decipher what needs to be connected where.

It really is a hands on job, since as you say, few things are properly labelled.
