I use Win 7, Win 8.1 and Win 10 everyday. To me, they are so similar to each other that I barely notice that I'm on a different OS when I switch from machine to machine.
I'm not a big fan of upgrades so I only upgraded a couple of netbooks that I didn't care about, just to see how the upgrade works. My main desktop runs Win 7 and will continue to do so. I also have a laptop and a tablet that are running Win 8.1 that I won't upgrade. I don't have anything against Win 10, it's a perfectly good OS (as are Win 7 & 8.1), it's just that I don't see any advantage to upgrading.
My advice is no, don't upgrade your existing machine. However, if you're going to buy/build a new computer then Win 10 is what I would recommend. Unfortunately, the OS isn't free then.
