we just renewed 5 mos for 35, he the most I could squeeze them this time

Not being defensive, just want to know how you did it.

I dropped out of T-Mobile when we went three years with promises of service in Arkansas "soon" and the situation never improved. I'll mostly listen to the satellite radio while riding down the highway. Steaming music eats up a lot of my monthly 10GB over the cell phone and is quite spotty even in major metro areas in my experience.

I camp a lot of places, OK, TX, and AR state parks, COE parks - with no to limited cell service. Even if we have voice on AT&T - neither AT&T nor Verizon have data service for streaming.

The DW would be unhappy if I watched NASCAR while driving. ;)

Yes, Sirrus is way too expensive. But I like being able to get NASCAR races when out in the boondocks, or on the road. I like being able to have the type of music I want, wherever I am located.

We use a dock unit in the camping rig and tow truck so there is only one subscription.

No need to get defensive... We all have different interests/needs.

In answer to your questions....

1) I have yet to campl in a place with no cell service. - perhaps I am sheltered - quite possible

2) Costs nothing extra - i am on an all you can eat data plan - grandfathered for quite some time.

3) If i wanted to have nascar - even in a place where there is no cell service... i would watch it on the DirecTV in my RV....

Your right launching satellites isn't cheap. But when that SAT is up, their costs are fixed and you can get a subscription for much less if you negotiate. In theory, it doesn't cost them anymore to do that since their costs are fixed, and the SAT is up there whether it's sending a signal to one radio or millions.

I would have to assume that the Stern surcharge for service goes a ways to pay his salary. but it impacts the price I pay for all of the 150 stations that I never listen to.

I can't believe anyone would pay for that service given the number of options available for free over the internet...
