Assuming that you don't have a system that receives the SiriusXM signals, yes...you need to purchase a radio and a subscription.

Lots of XM radios out there...probably even get one at Best Buy, maybe even Walmart??

Buy a kit on EBay...receiver and antenna that feeds the signal into your current radio on FM frequencies. Mount the antenna inside on top of the electronics in the overhead compartments.

The XM receiver will broadcast on an FM channel so you just tune your existing radio to it. Or, for better sound, you can use a cable with stereo 1/8" plugs and connect it directly to the aux. input on your existing radio if it has one.
There are plenty of aftermarket stereos with built in XM that you could buy and install too if you really want it built in. I never spent all the money and time that way took.

if i'm reading things correctly it sounds like I would need two of the XSDV3 kits - one for each vehicle and then one SXPL1V1 receiver that I would be able to move between the two vehicles?

"2cheifsRus".....Having multiple SiriusXM subscriptions can get pretty pricey. I do as many have suggested. A few years ago when the portable units came available, they connected to power and to the antenna lead going to your radio. Once everything was connected, you just turned your radio to a specific (unused) station and you would receive XM. I bought one receiver and 4 portable mounts. You can buy the mounts individually with no radio, just the mount. I put a mount in the boat, motorcycle, work car and personal car. I moved the radio head from mount to mount as I used a particular vehicle.

Recently, I bought a new truck and another boat. Again, I didn't want to pay for multiple subscriptions. I bought one of the newer SiriusXM radios from Best Buy. This time, I found that buying a mount with a radio and one without was only about $2.00 difference in price. I bought both with the radio and will keep one radio head as a spare.

Now....the newer generation mounts come with a standard 3.5mm plug. Most of your newer radios have a 3.5mm jack for your phone, or other digital player. The quality of the link between using the old antenna attachment and the new media plug (3.5mm) is so much better.

SiriusXM sells at least two radio heads. One has a lot of features and one is pretty basic with 10 presets. I bought the less expensive unit. I just want it to be able to play about 4 preset channels.

Once you get the radio setup, it has an ID number on it that will display. Call Sirius and get you subscription started. A word of warning.....they're offering six month specials and then there price jumps dramatically. I like to do the six month special and then negotiate a new price. Their prices can be all over the place from customer to customer which is really a bad business model. If you're not careful, they'll gouge you for twice what they charge others.

Lastly, DO NOT allow them to take your credit card and do automatic renewal. If you end up paying, lets say $69.00 for a year, that automatic renewal will be over $200.00. Just one of their bad business practices.

I have a boom box in the RV. Just plug in the receiver. Autopay billing. Used to switch between the truck and RV, but new truck has its own receiver, so I have 2 accounts. I think.. it's been awhile.

That's what we do. We have the kit in the motorhome hardwired to use the auxiliray input on our dash radio, and another one in our "spare" car that we keep at our Adirondack get away cottage. When we're there, we just move the XM receiver to the car until we're ready to roll out again. The car radio uses the XM's FM transmitter, since it doesn't have an aux input. Our toad has its own built-in radio with XM, so we do have two "Mostly Music" plan accounts. We also get many of the Sirius/XM channels included with our Dish satellite subscription.

or get the serius xm app on your smart phone and use bluetooth or audio out jack from your phone

get unlimited data on your phone and then have serius xm where ever there is cell service

if you have a serius xm radio in any of your other vehicles, with the right package, the app is free
I have it in two cars and now free on two phones
hace a few blue tooth speakers and get xm where ever I am, boat, car, beach, camping, someone elses car, RV.....

the app is a great way to go
