Sony AV Receiver Issue

According to your manual, there is a on/off button on the remote control. If you did not get one with your unit, the number is -- RM-X170

Hmm..

After looking at the owners manual there is no mention of powering up or powering down the unit manaully?? Generally there will be some button that you push and hold to turn radios on/off with..

The remote has a power button but mentions turning On/Off the "source"??

Pulling the main fuse may turn it off, but depending on how this unit is wired may dump everything you have preset in memory by doing so.

The better solution is to find the "ACC" wire on the radio (red wire per the manual on page 28) and cutting that wire and adding a manual On/Off switch.

The switch now simulates the ignition switch of an automobile installation.

Do not cut and switch the yellow wire, that wire must be unswitched and is used to keep the radio memory and your sound settings alive.

Might turn the monitor off, but does it turn the entire unit off?

Granted, perhaps OP doesn't like a bright monitor running 24/7 and doesn't mind that that button only turns the monitor off.

I suspect OP is really wanting to turn off the entire unit not just the monitor like any normal car radio should. Switching the red lead will take care of making sure the unit is fully powered off and not just the monitor.

There is zero reason to keeping the entire unit turned on all the time and if one is boondocking is a needless drain on the batteries.

Thanks guys. I talked with Entegra this morning and was told to push and hold the home button. I told him I had tried that and it didn't work. He then put me on hold and came back in a couple minutes and said the remote would do that for sure. Since there was no remote with the coach I ordered one. It should be here tomorrow, so I'll see how that works.

It is hard for me to imagine that a monitor should be left energized to drain the batteries.

Thanks for your suggestions. If that doesn't work, I am going to install a switch on the dash.

The only OFF button I found was no the remote. But the link is for the operating manual for the product. There may also be an OFF button on the wired remote (Steering wheel) but I think the install a switch in the power lead is your best bet.. Note that this unit likely has two power leads one for MEMORY one for operation. Switch only the one with the bigger fuse.

No, don't go for "the bigger fuse" or wire, that will be the one that goes to directly to the battery as unswitched. That memory lead also supplies power internally to the entire radio unit including the power amps which is why that lead is "bigger" and typically is fused with a higher amperage fuse..

Take a look at the diagram on page 28 of the manual, follow the wiring on the diagram. See the wire marked ACC with note number 3 with the red arrow I added.

If you are going to add a manual On/Off switch then the red lead which is also marked ACC (AKA switched Accessory power or Ignition).

Do not switch the yellow wire as that will dump your memory settings and you will have to run through setup from scratch each time you want to power the unit on.

The RV builder may have spliced both yellow and red together behind the radio, just separate them, keeping the yellow directly connected to battery and add a switch to the red lead and the other side of switch to the same power connection ans the yellow lead.
