different models of straight talk phones use different networks. Be sure you get the one(s) that work on the verizon network.
If you don't need much data, check out Page Plus, a reseller of Verizon service. I use their plan for 250 minutes, 250 texts, and 10mb of data (warning...this is very low data allowance) for $12 per month, and this works well for me.
You may be able to port your existing Verizon phone to page plus.
