We have Steets and Trips, the most current version, and it's almost never used.
Also have and use as a primary mapping tool, Delorme Topo North America. Have used it for years. Lots of nice features, but difficult to learn.
In the past six months, I've started using Garmin Base Camp. Love this software. But you HAVE to download the upgraded maps or it is of no value.
I pre plan our route for the nex day or days and then download them to the Garmin GPS. Every waypoint has been checked on the laptop, and I'm pretty sure there won't be any surprises.
Base Camp is free, but it's the most difficult of the three to learn, at least for me, but it's the best match for a Garmin GPS.
