Time was that I regularly traded back and forth between S&T and SA. About 05 or 06 I wanted to do something with S&T and was able to do it with the older SA. I bought the new SA and never looked back for my own use. I did keep teaching "Laptop Planning and Navigation" using both. I guess I am going to have to transition to Google now. Having had the job title "Navigator" people expect this of me.
None databases included in either are/were worth a damn. The charts (maps) are inaccurate at best and usually a year out of date. Google maps might be better, but planning a long excursion is a bear and unless you are carrying wire (have traveling internet), it quickly becomes useless. A lot of this country still does not have even 3G, let alone 4G, available.
If you are going to use SA, plan the time to sit down and learn to use all the features. It is a powerful package. If you want to make it more inclusive, then go to the
Discovery Owners POI and learn how to upload the data you want on you working charts. When you happen to be in internet range, then you can make use of all that neat stuff, but we never seen to have both need and wire at the same time.
