The process that a commercial transfer will use is the same as what you would do at home except they will do it on a machine that will not record the projector noise onto the file that will be burned to the DVD. For what is involved to set this up at home you will likely not be pleased with the results that you get and you will need to be proficient with video editing software to tweak what you get to have a decent final product. It is much easier to let a camera shop or Costco (Walmart may also do this) do it for you. And don't do it to CD - CD is not intended for video (though video can be recorded on a CD) but be sure to do it on DVD. It is simple to rip a non-commercial DVD to files if you want to later with a lot of free software that is available.
