surround sound/digital tv

anyone know ofa reason a house current home theater system would not work in an RV. i have a 110 volt that overloads and shuts down almost immediately.i've tested all the outlets, used a good quality surge protecter. it seems like i have static electricity present in the ground side of the 110, i get a small spark when attempting to make any conection to complete the circuits(HDMI,or power). if i make all the connection then power on it overloads. im stuck please help

  • You have a short to ground. Start at your house connection and trace out until you find the problem. Bad/burned plug or melted wires in one of the plugs is your major problem.
  • i did have voltage inside from the frame of the tv (or actually the mounting bolts) to ground but i couldnt figure why. i even had voltage from the same place to a free standing metal table leg but it was like 35-45 volts.what would that tell you?
  • thank you seems thats the prob the plug has gotten hot to touch before and the pigtail is like welded to the extension cord for shore power. i'll replace it. thanx for you help
  • Basically using a volt meter and a piece of steel measure between the earth and the RV's frame. Or stick one lead into the dirt.
  • to donn0128 this is a strong possibility could you please be more specific about where to measure the voltage from the frame to? (the plug?)
  • Ill bet you also get a small shock when standing outside and touch any metal on your trailer. You probably have a problem with the shore power plug. Take a volt meter and measure from the trailer frame to ground. If it reads anything other than zero you have found your problem. It is co mon in this part of the country. Fix it before you electrocute yourself!
  • What is the source of the 120v power? Generator, inverter, shore power?
