Surveillance security cameras. Will this work?

I'm looking into getting a camera system. I'm getting motion spot lights as well as motion sensors with an alarm. I want the camera system to record and be online so I can view it anywhere from my cellphone. They have ethernet cables that hook from the DVR to a modem. My question is, can that ethernet cord work from my ethernet plug in my laptop? We are using the campgrounds wifi and don't have a modem. I know there is an alternative which is a smart camera, but they are about $200-400 for just one camera. They have a built in DVR and work off wifi instead of having to be hardwired. Is it possible to hook the DVR to my laptop and get internet recording that way? Anyone have a system that works differently or doesn't have to have a modem for it to work? Thanks in advance.

    them connect to home router internet
    or
    do you want to monitor outside the rv while inside?
    no intrnet needed
    you want to monitor rv
    while away sight seeing?
    remote 'constant cconnection' monitoring will proably violate CG wifi useage rules
    you can get systems that will call you if there is trouble

    Settles that then. Guess if I want a camera to view on the net it's going to have to be a smart cam.

    Most likely not. You need to hook it up to a router.
