We've been using MS computers for 18 years now, but I'm thinking of switching to Apple. The reason is I get so many confusing software updates & problems. For instance, MS recently wanted to install a new IE Explorer. We said yes, then it said some other computer was using our address, to resolve it with our administrator. From past experience, I know this will mean hours on the phone and probably I'll still be confused. Seems like they can't leave us in peace.My question is; do you get all this kind of bothersome******from Apple?I suppose it would not be too difficult to learn how to use an Apple, and to transfer all my files?

Problem with Apple is that EVERYTHING they make is so stinking proprietary that you cannot even go to the bathroom without them wanting to hold the seat for you!!Great product, great interface etc. but they want to do ALL the thinking and let you push a few buttons.MS has its quirks for sure but at least if you want to change something in your computer, you just do it. Try that with an iMac or MacBook! Ain't going to happen!

Very doable... Your data files should transfer, but not your software. You'll have to obtain apple versions of the software you need, possibly even needing to purchase much of it.

I don't get such issues with Apple...then again I also have not had those issues with Microsoft. I do like some things about Apple products. Their design integration is beautiful. They have done a great job of marketing the name as a premium product and in many ways have delivered on it. I don't like how tightly they control things.If you switch to Apple you can overcome some of the software issues by installing Windows and running a dual boot system.

I've been on computers since the day of the 80-88 PC and evolved all the way through to the latest version of Windows when I retired in 2008. My Department refused to use Apple systems. When I retired, we purchased IPads then got sick and tired of the constant Microsoft Software changes and virus attacks. We replaced our PCs with MacBooks and my wife has a nice desktop. We will never go back. Much easier to use once you figure out the differences from Windows to Mac and much more stable. I can't see going back.

May I suggest that before you switch to apple try a Linux operating system (Ubuntu). Works on the same hardware as your windows system but is much more reliable and supports many APPS. You can try it alongside your current windows system (Dual Boot) before a decision is made. I have two systems one running Windows 7 and the other running Ubuntu Desktop. Hands down UBUNTU is a much more user friendly and secure system to run once you learn the basics.
