This is not correct. The Hopper will not work with any of the dome style antennas but work perfectly with the auto roof mounted full sized antennas. It will also work perfectly with a ground base, tripod mounted home style antenna.
You do not "need" a Wally or 211z unless you plan to use one of the domes. Bring your Hopper with you, just ensure you get the right antenna!

You can add a USB HDD to the Wally for single channel DVR function. 211 too.

I leave the Hopper at home cranking out recording to watch when get home.

OP here -

I have a "hopper" - they didn't give me the model number when they delivered it - I just got it on Monday so it's all still new to me.

Dutch - you're right that it's a bleak future; However, for the amount I'm paying I'm saving 50+ bucks a month over directv - for the same service and when I'm on the road, I can watch the cr@p I want to watch at home on the road.

I also hate commercials so I can watch my recorded shows remotely (as I am this afternoon) and fast forward through the commericials at I would at home.

In theory, could dump the satellite and cable altogether but for work I need high speed internet and they are giving me 100.00 a month so I'm not going to kick a gift horse in the mouth.

So do the automatic dishes work with all receivers or do they only work with the Wally's?

Call Dish and have them send a technician to your home to set it all up and answer all your questions.

I highly recommend popping $400 for a Winegard Pathway X2 auto search carryout.

It is not compatible with a Hopper, but does HD with Wally and any 211..

It is the only one that can get both the eastern arc and western arc which are located in different areas of the sky which is great for when there are trees.

You connect it, a menu is on your tv then you click a few boxes and it does the rest.

If you do get a dish mobile antenna get the one that will do the eastern and the western arc. WE cannot get 110 . . . 119 . . . 129 good when in Florida but the 61.5 . . . 62.5 . . . 77 come in great. Some of them you can only get Western arc
