Switching Browsers

My Windows 10 laptop has been using Chrome Browser but it has got slower and slower.. I switched to Edge and it was much faster but I didn't like it.. Thinking about Firefox.. Anybody using FF or comments about it?
  • My fast Firefox comes from my computer! If it was any faster the page would open before I clicked on the link!
  • Bill,

If your Firefox is that slow, get the updates. My Opera is no faster, and Chrome had to be abandon because it will not open Google Calendar.
So, I am using both O and Ff and get along just fine.

I assume you are referring to some other Bill than me. If not, re-read the post.
  • I've been using Firefox for over 10 years now - currently running on my laptop with Linux Mint Cinnamon OS - so much better than Windows...

FIrefox was sloooooowwwwwwwiiiiinnnnnngggggg down on me so I went to Chrome on my Win-10 box Edge .. Scares me, turns out Microsoft tracks, So does Google but Google tracks no matter what browser you use so might as well make it easy fo r'em. (I use Edge for one site but .. well 192.168.x.y/stuff is not a site Microsoft can track (That is another comptuer in my Local net).

    THen .. I decided I needed a 2nd comnputer.. SO I got a cheap a.. Chromebook.

You ermember setting up windows 10 (Pack a lunch)
Well here is the job with a chromebook
    Go to Denny's (Good wi-fi)
    Place order
Take CB out of box and turn it on (Charge battery first)
By the time your order arrives you will be all set up and browsing, I kid you know

First thing it ask is demographics (ENglish/other, keyboard) and for a Wi-Fi Node (Denny's 5G)
Then if needed it will ask for a PSK (Did that here at "home")
Then it ask for my Google User Name (Primary E-Mail address, not one I give out)
And password (Pass*word is NOT may password).
Then it configured and even downloaded my Chrome bookmarks file which the win-10 box uploaded.

So for some time I ran it next to the win-10 box

Then it gave me a scare (no power) so I got another, set it up (only difference is the restaurant, again it was configured before the order arrived). and then the origial started working again.

Now I do the same internet run by using both Chromebooks, and find 2 hours of "nap time" in the afternoon I did not used to have.. They are that much faster.

Only issue is neither chrome book has a lot of storage so I have to move files from the CB to the Win-10 box for long term storage (Recipies, instruction manuals and the like, also some programs do not run on Chrome So I still have the Win-10 box. it's turned off, sitting under this Chrome book at the moment.

Note to Managers of the forum, THe blasted Captcha got me after I typed all the above. and of course when I checked the box "Invalid Forum or ID passed".

THankfully I know how to not have to type it all over, but this is getting annoying it always does that the first try.
  • FF years & no issues on my Win8. DW uses it with Win 10 and has had no issues. Edge took over her Win10 till I dumped it.
  • FF for many years on Win XP, and then on Win7pro. Then it seemed to be constantly coming with more updates, and slower page loads. I looked around, and decided to give Opera a go. It's less feature-laden than FF, but more than adequate, and will of course import your bookmarks, etc. It requires less mem than FF, and runs quite a bit faster, on my w7 system.

Liked FF, and I kept it up to date, and run Anti-V and super anti-spyware every week, but it just seemed to have got too big for an older Dell laptop.
  • I recommend several extensions for Chrome: uBlock Origin, uBlock Origin Extra, and The Great Suspender. I like The Great Suspender because it shuts down web pages that use a lot of CPU and RAM when they are not in use.
  • Have used Opera going on 2&1/2 years now! fast unless I get some PUPs:Potentially Unwanted Programs. Then I use MalwareBytes to remove them.
Maybe Ill give FF a try again. Still have Edge, but seldom use it!
