Well, I stopped by the local Verizon store and was told it couldn't be done;something about frequency mismatch. ....
Perhaps the easiest thing is to activate the Jitterbug with Great Call and ask them to port your Verizon number to the Jitterbug phone, you will still be on the Verizon network, just a different reseller.
There are many other options but they require some technical knowledge of the cell phone business.
