I hate start another satellite tv thread, but I need some help and couldn't quite find what i needed from searching.I am switching from Direct to Dish, and need to know what hardware I need to ensure that I can take a receiver in the rv. I want to be able to use the tried and true dish on a tripod mount for receiving the signal, and will be using one, possibly 2 receivers from the house.My question is, what dish do I need to purchase for the tripod, and what receivers do I need to get when they do the house install?Thanks in advance!!

With Dish you can go with one of the automatic domes. So there is really little need to fight with an open face dish and tripod. Pick one you like and go. Are you going to have Dish at home too? Let Dish set you up, then copy your home setup in your RV then its a basic matter of taking the receivers out of the house when you go.

We are on a seasonal site from march-november, and i have an open face dish there that stays permanently mounted, hence why i need an additional open face. And yes, switching solely to Dish at the house too.

There are lota of places in the internet thay will sell you what you need fairly cheap. Pick one and order it. The other way is when the installer shows up see if he will sell you what you need for your RV.

SolidSignal is a good source for equipment and technical assistance. They are authorized dealers for both Dish and Direct as well.I did this same switch at home some time ago. One thing I like about Dish is that I can set up a SlingTV on my home receiver and get all my channels when I'm on the road as long as I have an internet connection. This saves me the cost of a second receiver and the hassle of setup and the sling service on Dish doesn't cost anything, unlike Direct's method of doing something similar.The downside with both Dish and Direct is their constant creeping price increases which go up much faster than inflation.

When we got our DISH installed, we also asked for another receiver just for our RV. It costs us $7/month and it stays in the RV. We turn it on in April or whenever it warms up enough to get out and then we will turn it off the first day of December. Yes, it's only $7, but it is $7. We did it last year and it worked well.

My only question is, if you buy the Wally straight out, do you still have to pay the $7.99 monthly fee? I guess technician can answer that tomorrow during install.

Yes. The first receiver is free and every additional receiver will incur a monthly fee.

We have the Hopper 3 with 2 wireless Joeys. When going to Florida for the winter I just unplug everything 3 HDMI cables and 3 power cables and take it all with me. When we get to the RV park I hook up 2 HDMIs, 2 power and 1 coax and ready to watch TV. O and the 2nt Joey me buddy takes to his 5er next door. Could not be easier.

man I can't wait for my two years to be up with dish and go back to direct tv. worst equipment ever from dish and they only want to replace remotes not the problem

Maybe you own a site where you are traveling to and an antenna is already there, but most folks would also need to have some kind of an antenna setup along the way and at the destination.
Also, handing the 2nd Joey to your buddy is illegal and you might want to keep that info private. It's referred to as theft of services by the satellite providers.

Sounds like a good setup. We are at the lake lease every weekend from March through mid November, so I will have a stationary open face dish there. No need for the Hopper, as I just need a regular receiver and no need for DVR service. May pick up a tailgator or playmaker for the 4-5 times a year we pull out for travel.

Definitely a question to ask the technician. Not sure why it wouldn't if it was receiving a signal?

I have seen some post that they have had issues but I think it might be trying to get the Wally activated while connected to a portable. There should not be any problems connecting a working Wally to a portable (dome) and doing the check switch.

Technician said the same thing just a bit ago. Says I need an eastern arc 1000.2 or 1000.4, and to make sure it's not the hybrid one as that is for the Hopper system. He didn't have any extra or he would have gave me one off the truck. He said I should call dish and they MAY come install it for free at the lake lease. I'll see what happens when I call.
