I buy workstation-class laptops (and workstations). Couple years ago I bought a Dell 8-inch tablet and I was amazed at how powerful it was. Certainly you can buy a tablet that will do everything you want, along with a lot of computational processing, only slower. Any current brand will be just fine.
If the OP goes for a tablet I would recommend an aftermarket bluetooth keyboard, such as the Fintie. These are as thin as cardboard and function perfectly. My own personal opinion formed from hard experience is that touchpad use and styluses are simply impossible to use and everyone claiming they use a touchpad or a stylus is perpetrating a cruel joke. Just IMO.
