Having a Kindle reader (not a fire), Samsung Galaxy and an IPad and many laptops over the years, I can help somewhat.
I don't know about ones that have USB or HDMI ability. Since the simple Ipad was $500, I wonder what tablets would cost to have those added features.
That said, both tablets have BlueTooth ability and that might help you out there.
The things that the table is great for are
1. a lot of apps for camping places. If you have a MiFi or such, you can look up camping places while you travel and getting ready to stop for the day.
2. a lot of apps for reading news
3. good to great for reading books if you have ebooks.
4. quick access to email if you have internet
5. huge amount of game apps
6. a lot of apps are subsets of what you have on your computer and aren't usually full capabilities.
7. A tablet doesn't need to be turned off and even if you do that, they come up very fast.
Most of the executable programs you have on your PC will not have anything like it available on a tablet. See 6 above.
My two issues are a CD/DVD drive and a place to keep all my books, movies, and voice books.
I know the following is what you care about but for others: Android is like an extra disk drive for getting to files from a PC. The Ipad is absolutely not a disk drive. You cannot get to it's files from a PC.
That all said, I use the Ipad about 80 percent of the time, and the Kindle about 10 and the PC about 10 percent of the time. My wife uses the Samsung almost all of the time.
The keyboard and word creation is okay on the Samsung and sucks on the Ipad. The voice recognition is great on the Samsung and just barely adequate on the Ipad.
