Tap to pay

a) if I present the back of the phone to the reader, it must be out of its case
b) if I present the front of the phone, no problem in the case

All google's help says present the back of the phone.

Agreed. I'm wondering if the banks themselves will offer their own versions. That would seem logical, rather than using an intermediary like Gooogle wallet. Of course there'd have to be a standard since you can't have 6 different readers in the store.

There is only one reader for all NFC payment methods.
Our family uses both Apple and Android phones and I have yet to find a store that accepts Tap and Pay that both Google Wallet or Apple Pay didn't work.

I prefer Google Wallet or Apple Pay to a regular credit card because at no time does the retailer get my credit card information.
Remember: Target, Home Depot, K-Mart, can't recall all the other retailers that had data hacks to their systems. :E

I use Google Wallet daily without issue, once you know where the NFC chip is located on your phone it takes seconds.

The reason Goggle Wallet and Apple Pay may not work at some national retailers (CVS, Walmart, Rite Aid,some Home Depots, some 82 retailers in all) is because they have turned off their NFC until their own payment system is launched later this year.
Many small shops don't turn NFC on either because they don't understand it.

Also Google Wallet doesn't require a Secure SIM so don't waste your time trying to acquire one. They were for Verizon's payment system.

It's the case. Put naked phone on the reader and bingo.

I use Apple Pay several times a week, and it has never taken more than 1-2 seconds. I do appreciate the extra security of tokenized payments and wish was available everywhere. Hopefully the more people use tap and pay the more ubiquitous it will become and the better it will be for everyone.

At this point, I have to agree. It's experiencing growing pains. I'd just like to cut down on all the cards and the cash.

Starbucks works much better, and has never failed. The clerk shoots the code on the phone, voila.

After watching someone take five minutes fumbling with their iPhone trying to get Apple Pay to work for their coffee, I don't think those pay services (Apple's, Google's, or whomevers) are as good as people say. I am just sticking to my bank card. Just one swipe, and I'm done.

It did work.. once, but the local McDs, for whatever reason, will not.

I use tap to pay with my credit cards.
