text to email address???

Since Verizon is giving free text messages I decided to do text messages. I would like to know if a text can be forwarded to an email address.

I'm not finding much info, but I can't say I agree with this, yet.

The best way to know is to turn your phone's data OFF and try it. That will tell you for sure.

you will be using internet data to send the Email

    this will NOT be FREE

Only the initial text you receive will be free

unless of course he and the recipient are both on an unlimited text plan.

Converting to email may use data as email does. I would check with your carrier before encurring data usage I don't want used. Know first.

when I send an "email" to my Verizon phone or to any Verizon phone in the format phonenumber@vtext.com it comes to the phone as a text message, not e-mail.

    Sending to vtext ..
Assuming you send from a pc, you are using internet data to send the msg to an internet address...Aka vtext.com same as sending to Gmail.com
Vtext then sends a text msg to your phone number

Forwarding to an Email address is Sending an EMAIL

    EMAIL does use internet data
Email uses an ip. Aka internet address
Texting protocol does not use internet protocols
Text to a phone number from a phone is text via text protocol
Take a text and send it to an Email address via email on the phone is using internet data
If the text forwarding sends the msg from a vtext address to the email
Then it might be treated as text protocol from phone to vtext and not charged

As a test I just forwarded a text from my Verizon phone to my email address with the data turned off.

    It worked.
  • TEXT does not use DATA .. it is "SMS" short message system PROTOCOL

you did NOT send an email

you sent a text to vtext.com which delivered it via email to your email

Look at the SENDING address of the email

yes it did NOT use your phone data

the recipient (in this case yourself) received an email
    but the sender..sent a text to vtext.com
    technically not an Email

but yes the OP can send the msg to other peoples email
now the question becomes, can he send it to more than one at a time
  • OP here. I will forward the text I receive to my email address and then forward it to others that would like the email.
