This may be the end of buying a new Windows 7 PC.

It looks like manufacturers of PCs will no longer be allowed to build PCs with Windows 7 anymore, though inventory can be sold until it's gone. If you can't stand Windows 10 and need a new Windows machine, this is the time to buy it.

  • I have managed to buy 2 off the shelf, name brand computers without Windows of any kind- a Dell laptop with Ubuntu preinstalled, and later a Lenovo Server- quad core, 16gb memory, no hard drive, no OS box for just over $330. I have win7 on a virtual machine should I ever need it- the only thing I use it for now is Turbo Tax, and I could get away from that reasonably easily.

I ran across this article about Levono adding Windows bloatware and spyware from the BIOS. There are multiple sources confirming it, and Levono has made a BIOS update available to remove it, so I assume it's true. It started with Windows 7. Won't it be ironic is the best "upgrade" for Windows turns out to be going back to XP?

I'll never buy a Lenovo product. I was really disappointed when they bought Motorola from Google.
  • Is Microsoft even supporting Windows 7 anymore? I haven't been able to perform an update on mine in some months now.

Mainstream support is done, however serious security / operational flaws that are discovered will still be patched for the next 4 years or so, 2020...
  • Mine have been updating on a regular basis. Just did a couple updates yesterday, and a couple more today.
