Tire Pressure Monitoring

I have a 2013 Ford F-450 towing a TT with four tires. I was thinking about getting a tire pressure monitoring system for the TT. Is there any reason to buy extra sensors for the truck? Shouldn't the truck warn me when the pressure in any given tire is getting low?
  • Hi - the OEM system in the truck likely only displays once the pressure falls to a certain level. Does it also show individual tire locations? The OEM system on my car just displays a single idiot light that I then have to check the tires individually. The advantage of most after-market (I have the TST one)TPMS is they will show a real-time tire pressure and temperature, not just alarm when there is a "failure". This way you can keep an eye on the tires all the time. I got an extra sensor that I keep on the spare, so I know that it, too, is at proper pressure. I'd get the extra sensors if you are getting a system. ST
  • I would think that the factory TPMS on your F-450 gives individual pressures and warns of pressures dropping. The one on my Silverado does.
