What is it with these Tom Toms? The device is VIA 1535. Supposedly updated about a month ago and new message on "My TOM Tom" on PC says 2 updates available - hookup you device". After about five hours, message on screen states we are having tech problems - try again. However, once the message was cleared from the screen, My TOM Tom page on PC states device is now up to date. Unplug and turn on device and it says no maps found! Hooked device up and now says 6 hours to complete updates. The previous update stated 400 hours at first. I did the search mode on this site and this problem reported in one post but no solutions that I could find. Googled the problem and must be a common problem with Tom Tom. What about the other brand GPS devices? :M

Well, same thing happened again. I agree. We use paper maps, Microsoft streets and maps, android and Google Earth planning trips. But, GPS is nice especially telling what streets are coming up. Is this the same with all GPS devices?

I have had various Garmin GPS units over the years and currently have the RV 760LMT.I like to keep my units up to date so I have updated both the device firmware and maps many times. Touch wood but I have never had a problem. The map updates are not fast, they take several hours but they have always worked for me. I always do the updates at home before I leave on a trip. I wouldn't want to try and update them using campground WiFi for example, I think that would be asking for trouble.Garmin have had several approaches to software updates over the years, their current utility is called Garmin Express and it takes care of everything. It recognizes the device I connect, checks for updates and then installs them.I am sure there are other Garmin users who have had problems, but that is my experience.

Are you on a wireless connection? I cannot successfully update my Tom Tom when my computer is using a wireless connection. Hard wired to the router and I update just fine.

I have 3 TT's; none are a VIA model, but I have never had a problem when doing an update. It completes the job very quickly. The problem you are having may be due to an "improper" cable connect, or disconnect before TT. You may be able to resolve it with a call to their cust service, or maybe do a TT reset, and try syncing again, with a solid internet connection.As I said; TomTom for many years, and never a problem yet.
