TV antenna signal issues

2002 Minnie Winnie. Previous owner had satellite installed ( in motion) we have been trying to get signal off the antenna since we often camp around trees. The system has the switching box but we are not sure if the antenna is connected.
There is an odd three wire plug in the TV cabinet. But would think antenna would be normal coaxel
  • Scan was run in digital no channels found its not snow in the sence of analog snow but not black or blue until it was through scanning
It's not the TV we even tried the small flat screen from my old camper. Still no signal.

Are you sure the booster was on?

Turn of the antenna switch/power supply,, Go topside, take a volt meter.

Disconnect cable from antenna,, CAREFULLY connect meter to coax,, I suggest using a short clip on jumper cable (mini jumper) for the center wire, you can just hold the black lead against the ferrel (Sleve) of the connector.

Have partner turn swich inside on,, Should see 12 volts.. no 12 volts means booster was not on and antenna was not connected

Most common issue is old cable roof to antenna or blown fuse indoors.

Kind of rare but I ahve seen it and I do not see all that many since I do not do this for a living is a bad connector, at the roof line.

Booster is inside the antenna head by the way.

Other thing I have seen... When I pulled the power supply/switch there were NO CABLES attached to it, Nothing, not even cables detached from it, they had been ripped out. And recall I do not do this for a living yet I've seen that.

Suggestion: Assuming cables are good, Replace the indoor modle (Wall plate) with Winegard Sensar PRO.. Very nice tool.

Will chech to see if antenna is getting power

A digit television does not show static (snow) on the screen. When scanning for signals if none is found the television screen will be black or blue and say "no signal". Check the TV menu to see if the TV was set for receiving "analog" cable signals instead of "digital".

A digital TV cannot pick up any channels without scanning.

  • Should add that there should be a cable from the booster power supply to the box.
  • You need to check to insure there is 12 volts DC getting to the antenna. This is done by disconnecting the coaxial cable at the antenna. Use a volt meter or test light to check for the voltage.

Pull the booster power supply out of the wall or ceiling. Check to see if there is 12 volts leaving going to the antenna.
Did you check the back of the splitter box for any identification on the cables?
  • Thanks that answers the three wire plug. The TV is digital. The booster was on. The antenna was up ( had to replace gears) we tried running cable ( what we assume is the antenna wire) thru splitter box nothing but snow. We tried connecting directly to TV. Still just snow.
  • Yes you need a coaxial cable connected to the TV.

Are the TV,s the old analog type supplied in 2002? If so you will need a digital converter, or replace the TV with a newer digital type.

Does the RV have a digital switch-box? Set the box to antenna setting.

Doe the MH have a good antenna? The type that raises and can be aimed? If not you range may be less than 30 miles. The antenna booster must be turned on to amplify and receive a decent signal.

All digital televisions must run an "auto search" to locate signals and place the channels into memory each time you move to a new area.
  • Yes, the antenna should be coaxial cable.
The three wire plug could be for a relay that turns power off to TV so it cannot be watched while in motion, that is if the connector is cabinet above the steering wheel.
Look at the back of the box. It should be labeled.
Have you located antenna switch plate with small push button or slider to turn on power to antenna booster which is located in the antenna head?
