The TV signal goes to the TV via coax ONLY. Check the back of the TV and ensure that you have a coax plugged in and that it's the one coming from the Jack or the Jack power supply. Forget about using the Cable option on the TV to scan. That will only provide a signal when plugged into campground Cable TV connections.
