You may want to try finding a dealer that sells DELL Windows 7 full install DVD w/license. Not Windows 7 restore discs. I've seen them for $60.-$70. Though meant for DELL specific computers, they will install on any PC.
I know about the no upgrade path and everything will have to be reinstalled. I don't think that will be a problem, just a good bit of work for me.
I like your suggestion of of the Windows 7 full install DVD w/license. I have taken my Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Report to a local computer shop. He looked at the report and said that he could install Windows 7 Professional on it for $150 plus anything else that it may need like a video card which will probably not be needed.After that, I would just have to reinstall all of the software and file backups. Not a simple job, but doable.
