Perhaps Strollin' (a previous poster) can give you some info on runnung almost ANY XP program on W8 using its 'compatibility mode' feature - this is not a virtual window.
I love XP and would say come next March, get all sensitive data super protected/off and wait for some possible third party support.
Otherwise, I would strongly recommemd W8 (w/ a shell, if you want). W8 is superior code compared to W7, and I bet it would run very, very well on your old machine.
