Will USB 2 accessories work with USB 3 ports ?

- OP here, I got a new laptop yesterday and my wireless mouse works great in USB 3 port and my thumb drives work.
Went from windows 7 to 8.1 and have a lot to learn.

- I plug USB-2.0 devices into a 3.0 port all the time, no tribble, no improvement
Likewise most 3. devices will work, though slower, in a 2. port (Though there may be exceptions here).
In fact my 2.0 Smart phone is plugged into a 3.0 port on this computer as I type. - I'm sure you're aware of it, but the USB 2 devices will not operate at USB 3 speeds.
