Used Samsung Galaxy Nexus SCH i1515 on Verizon network?

My wife needs to replace her HTC Incredible and is looking at used phones which will work with fox fi so she can use her unlimited data on the mobile hotspot.

Any input on this phone? Fox fi says it's compatible.

I don't understand the sim card thing, I guess that needs to be purchased from verizon when the phone is activated?

Phone only has 16GB storage and is not expandable, but I don't know how big of deal that is for us.

Anybody happen to know if this phone will fit in the Sleek cradle? I'll have to look through our sleek bag but I seem to recall it came with a couple different sized 'ears'.

  • Thanks for the replies. Wife purchased a Nexus off ebay for $100. Looks brand new, don't see any scratches or dings, 30 day return window. She likes it so far and has purchased a second battery.

When she took it into the verizon store for activation the clerk gives her the old, 'well let me see if I can save you any money by changing plans' line.

A few seconds later he says that at least one line on the family plan will be buying retail phones forever given how much data it uses each month. He said there was nothing he could do to save us any money on new plans etc. Then he leaned over the counter and strongly suggested that she do whatever it takes to keep the unlimited data plan for as long as possible.

This is the Wilson Sleek I have and it works very well.

Re the Nexus, yes, it is a battery hog. If you're looking for a used phone for the Verizon network, I would suggest perhaps a Galaxy S4. Good phone, much much better battery life than the Nexus, and works with FoxFi. A good place to shop for used phones is Swappa, click here. The ESN of any phone listed there is checked out by the site and is good before it can be listed for sale. I have both bought and sold phones there.

Ok, so the wilson trucker antenna is dual band so that should be ok for 4G.

And the nexus should work on 3G with the current 3G sleek?

  • My previous phone was a Galaxy Nexus. It worked well with Fox Fi. The only issue I had with it was that it uses up battery power like crazy. I had Verizon look at it and tried a new battery etc. Verizon just stated that it was known issue with the Nexus.

Crap, that's right our sleek is 3G. I missed that.

I wonder if the wilson truckers antenna we use will work with 4G....

Verizon 2G/3G/4G (does NOT work for Verizon's AWS frequencies - helps with 4G only on the 700mhz band)

    What are AWS frequencies?
  • The Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5 are compatible with Foxfi and has a Micro SD card slot good up to 64GB........it looks like the sleek cradle is only for 3G phones.....the ones mentioned are all 4G LTE........
