This seems a lot to go through + Android-only doesn't seem like a selling point.
I opted for a LaCrosse Alerts system -- it can connect to any hotspot, temp/humidity data is accessed via any web browser, and high/low temps, etc notifications can be sent via SMS or email.
For visual/sound monitoring, I use a couple of CloudCams.
I haven't yet come to a conclusion on this yet, just testing things out. I like several things, the app is cheap - $11, the sensor is cheap - $39 for temp. (not sure about others). I like that I can monitor movement, sound etc. as well as temp all in one app/product. I can use wifi or cell connection. Not sure being only Android is a problem especially if you would be adding an additional phone for this you can get whatever inexpensive phone that works. For me, as long as it isn't iPhone I'm happy.
I've looked at several solutions and again not sold on any ONE yet. Just figure I might as well have fun testing this and see if can work as an option. Oh yeah, you can get a geiger counter module for when the nuclear winter sets in ;)
