Roy - we have Straightalk and it operates on the Verizon system here. We have travelled all over the US and the only place we don't have service (that we have found) is in Eastern Kentucky and in the section of WV/MD that is on I-81, about 20 mile stretch.
For $45/month per phone, we have 5G of data, unlimited calls and texts. Once we hit the 5G limit, our service goes down to 2G for the rest of that 30-day period. We have never run out of data, even during the months that we camp-host in MD and there is no WIFI at the campground.
We were, at one time, with Alltel, then with AT&T and then with Verizon. Our bills were running in excess of $200 with all of them (we had 5 phones then) so we shut them down and went with Staightalk about 6 years ago with 2 phones. We now have 3, but it's still much cheaper and our service is just as good.
We have an AT&T GoPhone hotspot that we use while camphosting because they get the best 4G signal there and it is $50 for the month we are there. It saves us lots of $$ and we have good service everywhere we go.
