That may be the case in northern California, bu most urban areas have cell towers every where. I live in a town of 350 in North Dakota and we have one in town. I ported my land line, three years ago and went with a Network Extender that acts as a Mini Cell Tower in my house. I wouldn't need that now that we have a tower right in town, but I still do.
