verizon or US Cell

I've read quite a lot of the posts on here and have asked the question about which service you would recommend, Verizon or US Cell, most were leaning towards Verizon but I never really saw any reasons why. The coverage maps seem pretty similar with some minor differences on the data side.

So....not just which one, but why have you chosen or do you choose the one you use?

thanks, will probably be upgrading or switching on Monday, so all of your opinions are really appreciated.

  • We have had both.

Verizon has the better phones and get the newer styles before USC.
When using USC roaming on a Verizon tower, your data gets "Throttled" and you may not be able to make a call. For example...In south Florida there are no USC towers and you are only roaming. I have been within 100 yards of an active tower with USC , with full bars and unable to make a call. The excuse is that USC doesn't want to "rent" service from other carriers.

My USC phone is a work phone and if it was coming out of my pocket...I would be going Verizon.
  • U.S. Cellular is apparently the fifth largest mobile network carrier. Verizon is the largest in terms of coverage.
  • If you live in US Cell territory and price is right go for it. Verizon roaming agreements are probably more robust.
  • Gotta say of the thousands of posts I have read here, I have never once seen anyone ask about or even mention US Cell, ever...

As for Verizon the simple answer is coverage

(More) I've been looking for anything US Cellular and all I find are articles about them losing customers and the state of roaming agreements. So there's your answer.. If you are in what's apparently their limited coverage or roaming in areas where you aren't charged extra, then you're probably OK.
