Verizon Unlimited Data

That plan is no longer available

I doubt very much that they will allow you to keep it. This will be especially true if you purchase one outside of Verizon. Situations like that are usually grandfathered in for as long as you have the original equipment. Doesn't hurt to ask, though.

I spoke to Verizon just yesterday and was told that at least for the monthly off-contracts, they have just gone to free WiFi! Fir their $45.00/mo plan they offer 500gb of free data, and for each additional $5.00 you get an additional 500gbs od data. So when My month is up end of March, I will opt for a $60.00 plan which will give me 2 gigs of data per month. I may be able to surf, play some games and maybe a movie to two... Two gigs is a fair amount of data, but this is a great move on Verizon's part. You can plug up to ten instruments free.

I believe that is 500MB of data, not 500GB. That's a 1000X difference.

For $69.99 per month & a start up fee, you can get a no contract, 20GB per month plan using their hotspot from Millenicom, which runs on the Verizon network.

On phones, if you pay the full retail price instead of the subsidized price from Verizon, you can keep your old plan and just upgrade your phone. I'm not 100% positive, but I believe I've heard that you can replace an old phone with a different one purchased elsewhere(as long as it's a Verizon supported phone) and still keep your grandfathered plan. Actually, you can go online and do an MEID transfer yourself which transfers service from your old phone to your new one.

It would seem logical that you could do the same with a MiFi/Jetpack.

It's certainly worth a try. BTW, if you call and don't like the answer you get from Agent A, try calling again and talk to Agent B . . . you'll probably get a different answer!

The "catcher" might be upgrading from 3G to 4G.

I KNOW it works for phones. My Motorola Droid Razr Maxx developed the battery bulge common to that phone. I bought a refurbished Samsung Galaxy S3 off Ebay and did the service switch online. Kept my unlimited data and paid no activation fee.

One problem may be that 4G phones require a SIM while the 3G do not. Would assume it's the same for a Mifi, so that may cause a glitch.

I upgraded from an IFail to the Galaxy4S several months ago and kept my unlimited data plan. If you upgrade through Verizon, meaning getting one of THEIR discounted or free phones, you'll lose the plan. As long as you buy your device elsewhere, you can get unlocked phones off fleabay, you can have them activated to your account with no penalty. If you change your account by adding a device and/or another line you'll also lose the UDP. Hope this helps in your decision....Dennis

I would recommend going to a Best Buy. I too have a grandfathered unlimited plan, and the Verizon store was going to switch me to a new 2gb plan if I upgraded. I went to Best Buy, they upgraded me (at a lower cost than vzw directly), and kept my plan unchanged.

I'm not a fan of Best Buy, but in this case, they did save me some major $$$.

Its been mentioned already, but you could buy a 4g Jetpack used. Sometimes the non-corporate Verizon stores sell trade-ins, or there's ebay / craings. Once you get the 4g jetpack, you can ask for a free SIM card from a verizon store (or their customer service), and transfer your account to it.
