The only way to get the maximum usage from your smarphone is to link it with an online account.
All Andriod phones use a Google ID, all iPHones use an iTunes (or Apple ID). Without this you'll never be able to add apps, or receive your email.
Believe it or not, there are people who actually use their cell phones as TELEPHONES.
