Weather radio

I am looking for a good weather radio to keep in my camper. I have read other posts about different types and tried searching without any luck. Looking around the web, I have found pretty pricey units (I don't want to spend $700) and cheaper units. I have one that I purchased at Radio Shack, but it doesn't reach far enough for our regular campgrounds. Any ideas out there?

Thanks, Steve.

  • I bought this weather radio (Midland WR-300) about four years ago and it is working well for us. I second the general comments of sdianel (above) about what the features of a weather radio should be. My WR300 does have an exterior antenna input, though I have never used it.
  • I recommend this one http://www.reecominc.com/r1630.htm

It has an antenna jack; you could Y off your camper radio antenna to it or mount an ordinary FM radio antenna somewhere.
  • We bought one at Walmart. Midland brand for less than $40. Works great. Make sure it says S.A.M.E. technology and maybe has the NOAA logo. I just check Walmart.com and they have a new Midland a bit more expensive $72. WR0300 is the model. Also make sure it has a battery backup in case the power goes out and have extra batteries. We have traveled all over the US and our cheaper Midland radio always gets a signal. You can program for one county or mulitple counties. We leave it on "all" and receive surrounding counties so we can know in plenty of time if a storm is coming. They do have short antennas. Wonder if you can connect a taller outside antenna to it??
