Weather radios, etc

I use the Oregon Scientific WR-103-NX with SAME set to ALL (I want the BIG picture).

There are times when I need two of them: one set on the Chicago station and the other set on the Racine station.

I used to have a Heath-Kit WX station but the top unit was destroyed by a 94+ MPH micro-burst two years ago.

We have been using a rather old RadShack but it seems to want to drop reception of late. We will be installing a Midland WR-300 for our next trip. It runs on 12VDC so we will hock it up to the house power and it will be a rather permanent draw. Set to County Code ALL. unless we are staying a while and there is active weather events that awake us needlessly.

One does need to remember to set the channel on arrival.

BTW the Midland is our Bricks & Sticks unit so we have had some experience with it and now trust it. We will probably add another Midland this fall & scrap the RadShack one.

I rely on my smart phone and the Weather Bug app. It sends alerts to you based on the phones location. No need to set up the weather radio with SAME codes.

On the other hand if I am in a location with poor or no cell phone service then I use my Oregon Scientific WR601 radio. I so seldom use it that I have to read the directions each time I want to set it up. It is a portable unit that you can carry with you if you want as long as you are staying in the same area that the SAME codes are set for.

For outdoor temperature, again I use my cell phone most of the time. I do have a rather cheap I/O digital thermometer.

You will find the Weather Bug app even has a lightning check on it that will tell you how far you are from lightning strikes.
