What does TWITTER do?
Twitter :: the kids all do this thing "tweet" ... can anyone explain it briefly. If one sends out a 'tweet' ... who reads it? Is it like FB, just your friends, or others and how does others know...

Lots of us do this.
Sometimes (but not often) you will follow someone or something (state parks, CampingWorld, whatever) and they will automatically follow you back. No biggie.
And even if someone does follow you, since you're not going to tweet, they have nothing to "follow" from you, so to speak.
(Now all I can think about is donuts!!!)
They text me and email me every time I get a new follower. Can that be stopped?
